News Flash!! News Flash!! News Flash!!
Hello clients!!! It has been a very, very long time since we have updated our clinic news. But then again, it has been a long and challenging year. The economy has hit Nassau Veterinary Hospital as hard as anyone, and we struggle to continue to provide cutting edge medicine at costs that are affordable for you. The new year will bring some price increases in the food and medical areas. Our prescription diets have undergone at least 2 price increases in the last 6 months, and with the increased cost of fuel, this may be a trend that continues through 2009. Please know that we have only passed on the manufacturer’s increase to you….we have not realized any further profits from these products. We think that your pet’s health is our primary goal, and most of our patients do very well if their nutritional needs are met.
2008 also brought an onslaught of new parasite control products. This is very frustrating for us as we strive to keep up with the latest medical research, and our historical approach has been to see how the product holds up to “in the field” testing. A good number of products do very well in a laboratory setting, but when used in the real world in everyday household situations, and they do not perform very well. We are also concerned with the safety of some of the newer products. As is our custom, we would like you, our clients to give us some feedback as to what you perceive to be convenient, and how concerned you are with safety issues involving your animal’s parasite control. Beginning in January of 2009, we will have a short survey that we would appreciate you fill out when you visit our hospital. It will give us some very valuable feedback regarding what products serve your pets the best regarding the healthy and safe control of internal and external parasites.
At this time, we would also like to address the availability of emergency care. We are always available to handle any emergency you may have during regular business hours. Please be assured that your pet’s emergency will be addressed before we proceed with further appointments or other patients in our hospital. However, we feel that to provide the best EMERGENCY medical care after hours, we refer you to an emergency center that is equipped and staffed for emergencies. We are not able to provide 24 hour staffing for cases that are intensely critical and are not able to provide “on the spot” diagnostics that may be needed to save your pets life. Sometimes cases that we take in as emergencies during normal business hours are stabilized and then transferred to our emergency referral center so that continued critical care can be administered. This emergency center has 24 hour staffing, so that your critical pet does not spend one minute alone and unobserved. Also know that this does not affect our ability to hospitalize and treat serious cases at our facility as long as we feel they do not need continuous monitoring to assure their recovery.
We would like to take this time to thank each and every one of you that allows us to care for your special friends medical needs. Know that all of us at Nassau Veterinary Hospital take this responsibility very seriously and strive to maintain your trust. And as always, if we feel that as general practitioners we cannot adequately handle your pet’s medical issues, we will be in contact with specialists who can.
We hope that in 2009, God will bring personal blessings in all our lives and that our country will find its way out of the economic turmoil that we now find ourselves in.
Have a very Merry Christmas and a safe and Happy New Year!!!!
