Medical Services

Practicing medicine has always been described as an "art".  Well, here at Nassau Veterinary Hospital, we go the extra mile to ensure that each and every patient has a customized treatment plan that fits the needs of the patient and owner alike.  We offer full
X-ray technology, full bloodwork capabilities, specialized testing through an outside diagnostic lab, allergy testing for skin disease, STAT EKG analysis, Doppler monitoring for blood pressure testing, and in-house ultrasound exploration.  We are equipped with a full-service laboratory that performs on-site urinalysis, fecal diagnostics and cytology.  We strive to provide the very best medical care possible.  Our doctors are up to date on the latest medical breakthroughs, and consistently attend continuing education conferences to keep a cutting edge on the latest  treatments and medical options.  If cases arise that need a higher level of care, we are in immediate touch with specialists in Jacksonville and Orange Park that can step up to provide even more sophisticated options for our patients

Surgical Services

Nassau Veterinary Hospital prides itself on being a top-notch surgical facility.  Dr. Kimberly Carter has extensive experience in surgical correction of soft-tissue abnormalities, orthopedic problems, fracture repair, as well as routine procedures such as spays and neuters.  Owners can be assured that we use only the safest anesthetics and each surgical patient's procedure is customized to fit that particular patients special requirements.  Pre-surgical bloodwork is recommended, and each patient is carefully monitored during each procedure by state-of-the-art equipment such as pulse oximetry, EKG monitoring and temperature regulation.  The doctor and staff at Nassau Veterinary Hospital also believe that our patient's recovery is smoother and less problematic with adequate pain relief.  We strongly recommend and routinely offer pain management options for our patients.

Dental Services
Nassau Veterinary Hospital is able to provide your pet with an optimum dental health care plan.  Most pet owners do not realize how important the health of their pet's teeth and gums is…statistics state that animals that have healthy mouths, live much longer and healthier lives.  Infection in the mouth is not only painful and a source of odor, but can lead to other more life-threatening problems such as kidney failure, heart infection and liver problems.  The doctors and staff at Nassau Veterinary Hospital strive to provide our patients with adequate preventative care to try and avoid the most serious problems associated with bad teeth…we offer several products that owners can use to maintain their pet's dental health at home.  Please give us a call and schedule an appointment if you have noticed any odor from your pet's mouth, if you have noticed drooling, or if your pet seems reluctant to eat hard food.  We would love to put the "ouch" out of your friends mouth!!

Exotic

Nassau Veterinary Hospital serves as a general health care facility for several exotic species including: rabbits, birds, iguanas, guinea pigs, snakes, and ferrets.  We can provide invaluable general health care advice regarding diet, housing, temperature and lighting, and special needs of species that may be hard to maintain.  We can administer vaccines, de-wormings and provide an overall assessment of how you are doing with regards to maintaining your special exotic pet's health.  We are not board certified in exotic medicine, and if we encounter a case that requires the expertise of a specialist in exotic animal medicine, we have several veterinarians that we refer our more intense cases to.  Our goal is always to provide you and your pet with the very best medical care possible.

House Calls

Dr. Kimberly Carter has a special interest in providing house call service for patients that may do better at home.  Whether it be an elderly owner who has trouble with transportation, or whether it is the "nervous and scared" dog who throws up in the car, she feels that this is an essential part of providing excellent health care for her clients and patients alike.  Dr. Carter provides house call service on Fridays only, and only routine health care issues can be handled as a house call appointment.  Medical needs such as vaccination, fecal exams, heartworm testing, urinalysis, skin problems and bloodwork can all be handled in this fashion.  Any overtly sick animal or any emergency care would have to be brought onsite to the hospital.  If you feel this is a service that would benefit your situation, please feel free to give us a call.
