Dr. Kim Carter
Veterinarian

I was born in St. Petersburg, Florida, and I have been close to the water all my life.  From the time I was 4 years old, I knew in my heart that I wanted to take care of animals.  I was blessed with parents that encouraged me to follow my dreams, and in 1991, I graduated from the University of Florida’s College of Veterinary Medicine.  I truly believe that I received an exceptional education there, and was instilled with a desire to always keep an open mind, and that you NEVER stop learning!

I came to Fernandina Beach after graduation, and fell in love…..my affinity for the ocean, and my desire to live in a small community where I could make a difference, all came together.  I opened Nassau Veterinary Hospital in 1997 and was committed to making our hospital a place for the animals, not the “people”.  I wanted a medical facility that was outstandingly clean, and extremely comfortable.  My patients must “feel” the love that happens inside our walls…..

I would like to tell you that I truly enjoy my job and have special interests in Internal Medicine, Orthopedic Surgery, Preventative Health Care, and small exotics.  I find my job to be challenging and rewarding and very, very sad on some days.  I become very attached to my four-legged friends and their suffering becomes a personal burden.  I strive to make their lives and the lives of my clients as rewarding, healthy and happy as possible.  I value each and every family that visits us and realize that each situation is unique and is to be cherished and respected.
I was just married to the man of my dreams, Brian.  Not only is he my best friend, but he is also the “DOGFATHER”.   ;0)

We share our home with 2 dogs, “Novia and Liza” and a cat named “Chub”.  Both dogs were rescues….Novia from Hurricane Katrina in Louisiana, and Liza from our local humane society after she came to me to repair her broken leg.  I enjoy running, scuba diving, international travel and just being with Brian and the dogs, no matter what we are doing!!!

Thank you for placing your trust in us at Nassau Veterinary Hospital….we promise to do our best to make your pet’s experience the best they have ever had!!!

Dr. Angela Oswald
Veterinarian

I joined the team at Nassau Veterinary Hospital in June of 2011. I was born and raised in Jacksonville, FL. Prior to veterinary school, I worked as a veterinary technician for 7 years. I began my undergraduate studies at Florida Community College at Jacksonville and completed my prerequisites for veterinary school at Valdosta State University. I began veterinary school at Louisiana State University then transferred to the University of Florida where I earned my doctorate.

My professional interests include dermatology, ophthalmology, and oncology. I also have a special interest in feline medicine and surgery. In school, I was awarded the American Association of Feline Practitioners Outstanding Senior Student Award for my dedication to and excellence in the study of Feline Medicine and Surgery.
I love spending time with my family, playing tennis, going to the beach, and hiking. My husband and I recently had our first baby, a boy named Hunter. Our family also includes a yorkie (Chase), a mixed breed dog (Red), and four cats (Cookie, Lover, Fluffy, and Blackie). There’s never a dull moment in our house; but I wouldn’t have it any other way!

For me, one of the best parts of being a veterinarian is establishing life-long relationships with our doggie and kitty patients as well as with their owners. I am always available for our clients whenever you have any questions or concerns.

Nassau Veterinary Hospital is a wonderful place to bring your pets. We really do treat our patients as if they were our own. We also do our best to make sure your pet is as relaxed and stress-free as possible each and every time they walk in our door. Rest assured your loved one is receiving the best possible care at Nassau Veterinary Hospital.

Ashley McDougald
Surgery technician

Hi! My name is Ashley Burns and I have been a technician at Nassau Veterinary Hospital for a little over 3 years now. I live on the island with my husband Evan and our baby dog Amelia. We rescued her back in September of 2011 and now we can't imagine life without her.

I love animals and dedicate my time to taking excellent care of your babies and mine. Rest assured, when they come to see us, I will make sure they are spoiled rotten and feel right at home. After all, they are just another member of the family.

Heather Cox-Strickland
Surgery technician

My name is Heather Cox-Strickland. I have been the Head Veterinary Technician at Nassau Veterinary Hospital for over five years. The majority of my life has been dedicated to the love and care of animals. During Hurricane Kartrina, I provided my services through relief efforts for lost, sick, and abandoned animals. I actually brought an abandoned dog home from Louisianna. It took several weeks but, eventually, I found "Shaq's" real owners and sent him home. I am the proud owner of four dogs and three cats and I understand the importance of providing a nurturing health facility for our pets. True love means understanding those who need us but can't use words to express it!

Georgia Edwards
Receptionist

Hello! I'm Georgia Edwards. Originally from Virginia, I've found my way to Florida (by way of Austin, TX) for a few years while my husband is stationed at King's Bay Naval Base. New to the Nassau Vet family, I'm so happy to be spending my time with other people who love animals. Working with and around people who share a passion for companion animal welfare makes FL feel more like home!

I live with my husband, Jeff, and our children, Otto, a 5 year old Doberman Pinscher, and Delina, our newest addition, a yearling Dutch Warmblood filly. In our spare time, Jeff and I enjoy exploring new things to do in FL,
going to the barn to hang out with the horses (a particular delight for Otto, who always finds some horse "treats" to get into, yuck!). I'm about halfway through my college career, but have been taking some time out since getting married. Originally majoring in English literature, I'm definitely thinking about switching fields to find some way to work with animals and/or medicine, preferably both! I look forward to meeting you and your pets, and will do anything I can to make your experience with Nassau Vet as great as mine has been!

Morgan Faerber
Surgery technician

I started working at Nassau Veterinary Hospital in January 2011. I am originally from Naples, Florida but spent much of my childhood in northwest Montana, just outside Glacier National Park. I’ve always been an animal-lover and outdoor enthusiast, and since I was a child I knew that I wanted to make a difference in animal welfare and wildlife conservation.

After graduating from Florida State University (Go Noles!), I planned on attending graduate school and ultimately become a primatologist, but in a flash of inspiration my life shifted gears and I decided to pursue a career in veterinary medicine. I have applied to several veterinary schools in the southeast and am anxious to begin my professional training. I moved to Fernandina Beach four years ago, and have grown to love this small, beachy community. I live at the beach with my boyfriend, John, and my lovable pound-puppy, Rajah.  I love running and hanging out at the beach with Rajah. I also enjoy reading, cooking, playing tennis and riding my bike. I am an avid SCUBA and free diver and love to spearfish and wrangle lobster out of holes.

The best part about working at Nassau Veterinary Hospital is our wonderful clients and our close relationship with local animal shelters and humane societies.
